Imam Fode Drame is the president and resident Imam of Zawiyah Foundation, a study and learning centre in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Imam Fode descends from the Jakhanke tribe of the Senegambian region of West Africa, which is primarily known for its distinctive method of introducing the study of Quran to young children and for producing erudite and distinguished scholars. Imam Fode earned the formal recitation and memorization of the Quran at a very early age and was fully immersed in all his formal studies of Islamic Jurisprudence, Arabic Grammar, Language Acquisition, and Quranic Exegesis. Imam Fode studied linguistics from the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) and is well acquainted with multiple languages including Latin, Greek and Hebrew. He is the first Muslim leader to partake in interfaith action in Vancouver and was a board member of the Multifaith Action Society. With 6 books published, he continues to write, teach, counsel and lead prayers and inter-spiritual dialogues.
